Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced the immediate suspension of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of party president and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), citing disciplinary violations. The decision, confirmed by BRS general secretary in-charge of disciplinary affairs Soma Bharat Kumar and general secretary (organization) T Ravinder Rao, was made in response to Kavitha’s recent actions and statements, which the party leadership deemed harmful to its interests.
According to a statement issued by the BRS, the high command took a serious view of Kavitha’s behavior, accusing her of engaging in anti-party activities that caused immediate damage to the organization. The suspension follows Kavitha’s controversial remarks on Monday, where she leveled serious allegations against her cousins, former irrigation minister T Harish Rao and former MP J Santosh Rao. Kavitha accused them of amassing significant assets and making her father a scapegoat in the alleged irregularities surrounding the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a pointed critique, Kavitha questioned the relevance of the BRS’s existence if its president, KCR, is forced to face a CBI inquiry. She directly implicated Harish Rao and Santosh Rao in the alleged mismanagement of the Kaleshwaram project, describing them as “anacondas of corruption” who misled KCR while overseeing key aspects of the initiative.

Kavitha’s suspension marks a dramatic escalation in internal party tensions, particularly following her arrest by the CBI in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam case, where she was detained from March 16 to August 24, 2024. After her release, Kavitha resumed active politics, focusing independently on OBC issues, which reportedly caused friction with the BRS leadership. The suspension underscores deep divisions within the party and raises questions about its future trajectory amid ongoing legal and political challenges.
