Vyshna SL, the Congress candidate from Muttada division of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, won her seat in the local body polls on Saturday with a margin of over 300 votes. Her victory came after a legal battle in the Kerala High Court to reinstate her name in the voters’ list, which had been removed by the State Election Commission (SEC).
Vyshna had approached the High Court after receiving a notice from the SEC stating her name had been removed from the electoral roll. She contended that the deletion was unjust and filed a petition to challenge it. The High Court subsequently directed the SEC to reexamine her claim, prompting a hearing that ultimately led to her name being reinstated.
The Congress party alleged that Vyshna’s name removal was part of a conspiracy by the LDF to disqualify her from contesting the elections. Party leaders welcomed the court’s intervention, saying it upheld the principles of free and fair elections and ensured that voters’ rights were protected.

Speaking to reporters after her victory, Vyshna described the win as a “win for democracy” and expressed pride in the electorate recognizing her hard work. “Truth will win,” she said, acknowledging the support of her party and the local voters who rallied behind her despite the legal hurdles.
The reinstatement of her name and subsequent electoral victory highlights the importance of judicial oversight in ensuring transparent and fair election processes. Vyshna’s case also underscores the challenges candidates can face due to administrative errors or political maneuvering during local elections.
Vyshna SL’s victory in Muttada division not only strengthens the Congress presence in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation but also serves as a reminder of the judiciary’s crucial role in safeguarding democratic rights against irregularities or partisan interference.
