Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the Government of Uttar Pradesh will soon begin distributing free scooters to meritorious girl students under the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme. The initiative aims to promote women’s empowerment and support college-going girls across the state by improving mobility and access to education.
The announcement was made during a state-level event held in Lucknow on the occasion of International Women's Day. Speaking at the programme, Adityanath said the distribution of scooters would start soon, fulfilling a key electoral promise made by the Bharatiya Janata Party during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.
According to the chief minister, the first phase of the scheme will focus on meritorious female students studying in the final year of their graduation or post-graduation. The government expects the initiative to help young women commute more easily to educational institutions, especially in regions where transportation options are limited. Officials say the programme is also designed to encourage higher education among girls and reduce barriers that often prevent them from continuing their studies.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, with the state government highlighting several welfare initiatives targeted at women and youth. Political observers note that the scheme could play a significant role in strengthening the government’s outreach to young voters and female beneficiaries across the state.
During the event, held at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the chief minister also honoured beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes. In addition, he inaugurated the Pink Rozgar Mahakumbh 2026, an initiative aimed at expanding employment opportunities for women through job fairs and recruitment drives.
The Uttar Pradesh government said these programmes form part of a broader effort to improve women’s participation in education, employment, and public life. Officials believe initiatives such as the scooty scheme and employment fairs will contribute to greater economic independence and social empowerment for women across the state.
