Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed profound grief over the catastrophic cloudburst and mudslides that struck Uttarkashi’s Dharali village in Uttarakhand, claiming at least five lives and leaving dozens missing. The disaster, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, unleashed flash floods that devastated nearly half the village, a key stopover on the Gangotri pilgrimage route.
In a post on X, Naidu wrote, “Deeply saddened by the devastating cloudburst in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, which has claimed lives and left many missing. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the safe return of those still missing.” Reddy, equally shaken, posted, “Deeply shocked by the devastating floods in Uttarakhand. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this incredibly difficult time,” urging swift and effective government relief measures for the affected.
Rescue operations, involving the Indian Army, ITBP, NDRF, and SDRF, continue amid persistent rain, with one body recovered and around 60 people, including 11 soldiers, still unaccounted for. The tragedy has disrupted the region, with damaged infrastructure and blocked roads complicating efforts. Naidu and Reddy’s statements reflect a unified call for solidarity and action, emphasizing the need for rehabilitation and support for Uttarakhand’s grieving communities.
