A massive sinkhole several feet deep appeared on a road in Ludhiana's Kitchlu Nagar area, prompting authorities to evacuate a nearby house and suspend traffic movement on the affected stretch. The sudden road collapse created panic among local residents and raised concerns over the condition of underground infrastructure in the area. The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana immediately stepped in to secure the site and begin an assessment to determine the cause of the cave-in. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a portion of the road suddenly gave way, creating a large crater on the busy stretch.

Following the collapse, officials restricted movement in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. Residents living near the sinkhole were advised to move out temporarily, with authorities taking steps to assess whether nearby structures faced any risk due to the damage. Municipal Corporation Ludhiana Commissioner Ojaswi Alankar visited the site and reviewed the situation with officials and engineering teams. She said a detailed technical investigation had been initiated to identify the exact reason behind the major road cave-in.

According to preliminary observations by engineers, the damage may be connected to the laying of optical fibre cables near the city's existing sewer infrastructure. Speaking to reporters, Alankar said that the actual cause would only be established after a proper inquiry. She explained that initial assessments suggested the possibility of interference between underground cable work and the brick sewer system beneath the road. However, she clarified that the administration was waiting for technical findings before reaching any conclusion regarding the factors responsible for the collapse.

The incident has highlighted concerns over underground construction activities and the need for coordination between different agencies involved in urban infrastructure projects. Any damage to such systems can weaken road foundations and create risks for public safety. Authorities are now focusing on repairing the damaged section and ensuring that the area is safe before allowing normal traffic movement.

Teams from the Municipal Corporation and technical departments are expected to continue inspections to evaluate the condition of nearby infrastructure and determine the required corrective measures. The Ludhiana administration has assured residents that necessary action will be taken based on the findings of the technical investigation. Until then, traffic restrictions will remain in place around the affected area, and officials will monitor the site closely to prevent further damage or safety hazards.
