The South Central Railway has launched a new digital service, the Rail Parcel App, aimed at making parcel booking and delivery through Indian Railways faster and more convenient for passengers. The pilot rollout began in Hyderabad on February 25.
The app is currently available across seven locations in the SCR zone — Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Chennai. Officials said the initiative is designed to simplify parcel logistics and improve customer experience.
Launched by SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, the platform offers end-to-end parcel services, including doorstep pickup and delivery, real-time tracking, automated push notifications and digital payment options. Railway authorities said the goal is to make parcel booking “as easy as booking a taxi".

To strengthen freight planning, SCR has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Through its Centre of Excellence in Supply Chain Management, the institute will conduct demand forecasting, competitiveness analysis, stakeholder consultations and infrastructure gap assessments to support rail logistics growth.
Officials noted that the study will contribute to Indian Railways’ broader target of achieving Mission 3000 Million Tonnes of freight loading by 2030. The Rail Parcel App itself functions as a digital marketplace connecting users with logistics services while providing visibility into available transport options.
One of the key highlights is the door-to-door booking facility, allowing customers to schedule pickup and delivery directly through the app instead of visiting parcel offices at railway stations. The platform also provides end-to-end consignment tracking with automated alerts, enabling users to monitor shipments in real time.
