Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, announced that the first round of negotiations on a free trade agreement with India concluded recently, and the deal could be finalised by 2026. He emphasised that both sides are determined to complete the agreement within the year, though the exact timing remains under discussion. The envoy highlighted the strong commitment from both nations to deepen economic and commercial ties through this pact.
Speaking about the ongoing negotiations, Azar said, "There is a lot of work. We are trying to press them as much as we can. We are positive that we can finish this year. The question is when." He indicated that the discussions have been productive and that both India and Israel are focused on ensuring that the agreement benefits trade, investment, and strategic cooperation.
Azar also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech at the Knesset, stating that it "really touched the hearts not only of our parliamentarians but also the entire people of Israel." He described Modi's address as a reflection of the mutual respect and shared values that underpin the growing partnership between the two countries.

With the free trade agreement expected to be concluded this year, experts believe it could open new avenues for commerce and investment while strengthening strategic ties. Both nations appear eager to capitalise on their long-standing relationship, making 2026 a potentially landmark year for India-Israel economic and diplomatic engagement.
