Starting August 15, 2025, frequent travelers on India’s National Highways and Expressways can enjoy significant savings with the new Annual Pass for private cars, vans, and jeeps, as announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Priced at just Rs. 3,000, the pass allows unlimited travel through designated fee plazas for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first, eliminating per-trip toll charges.
This initiative, enabled by amendments to the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008 (notified on June 17, 2025), offers substantial financial relief. For instance, a round trip from Chennai to Bangalore, crossing six fee plazas, typically costs Rs. 445 per trip. A traveler making one round trip monthly would spend Rs. 10,680 annually for 144 plaza crossings.
With the Annual Pass, they save Rs. 7,680 and can make an additional 56 trips within the year. Similarly, on the Chennai-Trichy route with seven fee plazas, savings amount to Rs. 8,880 for 168 crossings. More frequent trips mean even greater savings.
The pass can be activated via the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app or NHAI website, linked to an eligible FASTag (properly affixed, tied to a valid vehicle registration, and not blacklisted). It applies only to non-commercial private vehicles, verified through the VAHAN database, with commercial use leading to immediate deactivation.
This policy promises both cost savings and seamless FASTag recharges for regular travelers.
