Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C Joseph Vijay's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, withdrew her divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court on Friday. Sangeetha participated in the proceedings through video-conferencing and informed the court of her decision to withdraw the petition. The court subsequently closed the case.
Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition earlier this year seeking dissolution of her marriage with Vijay. The proceedings had been adjourned several times, including during the previous hearing when both Vijay and Sangeetha were absent. Their respective lawyers had represented them during earlier proceedings, while the matter was subsequently listed for hearing on August 7.
The case had attracted considerable attention following the filing of the petition, which sought dissolution of the couple's marriage and included requests relating to financial support and residence. As the proceedings progressed, the court had continued to hear the matter through scheduled hearings, with the latest development being Sangeetha's decision to withdraw the petition.

Vijay and Sangeetha married on August 25, 1999, in Chennai. They have two children. Their marriage has remained a subject of public attention, particularly after Vijay entered electoral politics and subsequently became Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
The marital dispute gained additional public attention following Vijay's political rise and the growing prominence of the TVK. However, the withdrawal of the petition does not by itself establish the reasons for the decision beyond what Sangeetha communicated to the court. No further conclusions about the couple's personal circumstances can be drawn without an official statement or court record. The latest development brings the divorce proceedings initiated earlier this year to an end at the Chengalpattu court. The withdrawal follows months of hearings and adjournments involving the couple. As of Friday, the case has been closed following Sangeetha's withdrawal of the petition.
