A 27-year-old police aspirant, Nitinbhai Chauhan, tragically died of a heart attack moments after successfully completing the physical endurance test at the SRP ground in Gondal, Rajkot, on Monday morning. Chauhan, a resident of Malarwadi in Kodinar, Gir Somnath, had cleared the 5 km run in 23 minutes, faster than the qualifying time.
Officials said Chauhan complained of severe chest pain and difficulty breathing immediately after leaving the test ground. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Gondal, where medical personnel attempted to revive him, but he was declared dead shortly after arrival. Police registered the case as accidental death, and a post-mortem revealed a blockage in his heart.
Chauhan, who held BSc and MSc degrees, had been preparing for a career in policing for several years and was married just one year ago. His family described his sudden death as a devastating blow, coming just minutes after he achieved a significant milestone in his professional aspirations.

This incident is part of a troubling pattern in Gujarat, with similar cases reported earlier. Last month, 25-year-old Ravirajsinh Jadeja of Kutch collapsed and died after completing a 5 km police recruitment run in Bharuch, while another aspirant in Chhota Udepur suffered a fatal collapse during the physical test.
Authorities have stated they will review safety measures at recruitment centres. Police officials emphasized the need to strengthen medical screening and ensure emergency support is immediately available during physically demanding tests to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The incidents have raised questions about the adequacy of health checks for candidates and the physical demands of police recruitment tests, prompting calls for stricter protocols and pre-test evaluations to safeguard aspirants.
