In a high-stakes operation, Indian Army troops killed two heavily-armed terrorists, suspected to be from Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), during a fierce gunfight along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on July 30, 2025. The encounter, codenamed 'Operation ShivShakti,' thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Maldivalan area of Degwar sector, officials reported.
Acting on precise intelligence from military, civil, and J&K Police units, security forces set up coordinated ambushes overnight on July 29-30. When the terrorists opened fire, a prolonged gunbattle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of both intruders. A subsequent search recovered two assault rifles, a pistol, hand grenades, improvised explosive devices, medicines, a communication device, and other supplies, indicating plans for a sustained attack.
The Army emphasized the operation’s success in preventing collateral damage and ensuring civilian safety. “This is a major setback to Pakistan-sponsored terror groups,” a defence spokesperson said, highlighting the synergy between security agencies. The operation follows the elimination of three terrorists in Srinagar just two days prior, linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

Search operations continue to ensure no additional terrorists remain in the area. The recovery of extensive war-like stores underscores the group’s intent for prolonged disruption, but the Army’s swift action has reinforced peace and security in the region.
