In a stunning victory for Indian security forces, the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack, Suleiman Shah, alias Hashim Musa, was neutralized in a high-stakes encounter in Srinagar. Codenamed Operation Mahadev, the meticulously planned mission culminated in the elimination of three high-value Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, all foreign nationals, in the dense Dachigam forests near Mahadev Peak.

Shah, a former commando of Pakistan’s elite Special Service Group (SSG), had joined forces with UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed to orchestrate terror activities for LeT. Intelligence sources revealed that the operation was sparked by suspicious Chinese ultra radio communications detected in early July. These encrypted messages, a hallmark of LeT operations, led forces to zero in on the rugged, high-altitude terrain of the Mulnar area in Harwan, where the terrorists were hiding.

For 14 days, security forces maintained relentless physical and electronic surveillance, tracking LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives trained in jungle warfare. The breakthrough came when the Army intercepted encrypted communications, previously dubbed "WY SMS" in 2016, pinpointing the terrorists' hideout in the forested foothills. The operation was executed with precision, and reinforcements were swiftly deployed to comb the area for any remaining threats.
