A prolonged anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its seventh day on Thursday, marking the longest such mission in the Kashmir Valley this year. Three additional security personnel were injured in a fresh firefight, bringing the total number of wounded to seven, officials reported.
The operation, launched last Friday in Akhal’s forest area following intelligence about terrorists, has seen intense action. Security forces, employing drones and helicopters to navigate the challenging terrain, killed two terrorists on Saturday after an initial exchange of fire. The identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists remain unconfirmed.
The operation resumed after a nighttime pause, with reinforced cordons and additional forces deployed. Army’s Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the situation in South Kashmir, commending the troops for their resilience and commitment to maintaining peace. The Northern Command’s post on X highlighted Sharma’s briefing on operational readiness and the ongoing counter-terrorism grid.
