In a dramatic turn of events, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged to take all possible measures to secure the release of two nuns arrested on allegations of forced conversion and human trafficking. The assurance came after a delegation of Kerala MPs, led by Congress-led UDF MP N K Premachandran, met Shah in New Delhi to address the contentious issue.
Premachandran, speaking to the press, revealed that Shah expressed confidence in the nuns' innocence and committed to ensuring that the Centre and Chhattisgarh government would pursue all legal avenues to resolve the matter swiftly.
The controversy erupted when nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis, along with Sukaman Mandavi, were detained at Durg railway station on July 25. The arrests followed accusations by a local Bajrang Dal functionary, who claimed the nuns were forcibly converting three girls from Narayanpur and trafficking them. The incident has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the validity of the charges.
