The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against K.M. Abraham, Chief Principal Secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CEO of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known income.
The FIR, registered on April 25 following a Kerala High Court directive, accuses Abraham of acquiring properties worth ₹12 crore, including a ₹1 crore apartment in Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, a ₹3 crore apartment in Mumbai’s Kohinoor City, and an ₹8 crore shopping complex in Kadappakada, Kollam.
The CBI alleges these assets constitute criminal misconduct under Sections 13(1)(e) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which address possession of wealth beyond known income and prescribe a minimum one-year imprisonment.

The investigation, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police from CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Kochi, stems from a petition by activist Jomon Puthenpurackal, who challenged a 2017 Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) report that cleared Abraham. The High Court, citing prima facie evidence and doubting VACB’s credibility, ordered the CBI probe on April 11.
The Congress, led by senior leader Ramesh Chennithala, seized on the FIR to demand Abraham’s removal, labeling Vijayan’s office a “den of corruption.” Chennithala referenced past scandals, including former aide M. Sivasankar’s arrest in a gold smuggling case, to claim systemic graft.
The opposition BJP echoed calls for accountability, alleging Abraham’s wealth accumulation implicates the Chief Minister. Abraham, who previously claimed a conspiracy against him, and the CM’s office have not responded.
