A fiery political clash erupted as BJP leader Jahanzaib Sirwal fiercely criticized National Conference (NC) leader Sajad Kitchloo for demanding that Jamia Masjid Kishtwar and Islamia Faridia be removed from the Wakf Board’s control. Sirwal accused Kitchloo of misleading the Muslim community with “divisive rhetoric” and acting as their “self-proclaimed guardian” to evade accountability.
In a scathing statement, Sirwal questioned Kitchloo’s motives, pointing out that Kitchloo’s late father, Bashir Ahmad Kitchloo, transferred these properties to the Wakf Board during his tenure as a minister without consulting the Muslim community of Kishtwar. “Today, he claims these were built with public contributions, but where was this concern when his father made the decision?” Sirwal asked.
Sirwal dismissed Kitchloo’s demand as “desperate posturing” from a leader frustrated by his waning influence over Wakf affairs. The controversy has intensified debates over the management of religious properties, highlighting tensions between the NC and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
