Tensions escalated in Maharashtra’s Thane district as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers staged a protest outside the Kashimira traffic branch, accusing a traffic constable of brutally assaulting one of their members. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday in the Mira-Bhayander area, has sparked outrage among MNS supporters, who are demanding strict action against the accused officer.
According to MNS leaders, party worker Anil Arkal was driving children to school when he got into a heated argument with traffic constable Mahesh Durge over a minor traffic issue. The altercation allegedly turned violent, with Durge reportedly striking Arkal and dragging him to a nearby traffic post, where he was further assaulted. The incident prompted an immediate response from MNS Mira-Bhayander city president Sandeep Rane, who led a group of party workers in a demonstration outside the traffic branch, calling for Durge’s suspension and a thorough investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (HQ) Ashok Virkar from the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police confirmed to PTI that a probe is underway. “We are investigating the allegations, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” Virkar stated. The MNS has vowed to continue protests if swift justice is not delivered, highlighting growing concerns over alleged police misconduct in the region.
Local residents have also expressed unease, urging authorities to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
