A massive fire erupted at ‘Shri International Industries,’ a plastic goods manufacturing factory in Umra Industrial Area, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday afternoon, causing damages worth lakhs of rupees. No casualties were reported, but the blaze, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit during welding, rapidly engulfed the facility, police and eyewitnesses said.
The fire broke out around 2 pm under the Kursi police station jurisdiction, creating panic among workers as thick black smoke spread across the area, reducing visibility and causing breathing issues in nearby localities. Five fire tenders were deployed, but efforts to fully control the blaze continued into late evening, according to Kursi SHO Anil Kumar Singh.
Workers reported that large quantities of raw materials and finished goods fueled the fire’s intensity. The factory’s initial attempts to douse the flames failed, prompting a call to the Fire Department. The local administration evacuated surrounding areas as a precaution.
