In a major win for the Sindhi community, Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that five lakh Sindhi families across 35 towns and cities in the state will soon receive property cards. The decision, revealed on Wednesday, delivers on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promise made during last year’s assembly elections.
The initiative targets Sindhi families who migrated to India following the 1947 partition and have since lacked formal property documentation. “The state government is committed to ensuring these families gain rightful ownership,” Bawankule told reporters. The move aims to provide legal recognition and security to the community’s properties across Maharashtra.
However, Ulhasnagar, home to the state’s largest Sindhi population, is excluded from this plan for now. Bawankule assured that a separate decision for Ulhasnagar will be finalized soon, addressing the unique needs of the area.
