The arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh has set off a political explosion in Kerala, with the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) slamming the BJP for what they call an attack on minorities.
The nuns were detained at Durg Railway Station on suspicion of human trafficking and forced conversion after a Bajrang Dal complaint, igniting a fierce backlash. Kerala Law Minister P Rajeev didn’t hold back, declaring, “Not only religious freedom but even the Constitution itself is under threat.”
The BJP, facing heat ahead of the 2026 Kerala elections, is sending a delegation led by General Secretary Anoop Antony to Chhattisgarh to dig into the controversy. Meanwhile, the LDF and UDF have rallied behind the nuns’ families, promising legal action, while the BJP insists it’s ensuring justice—if the nuns are innocent.
As tensions soar, this showdown is shaping up to be a major battle in Kerala’s fiery political arena.
