The new railway bypass line at Jasidih railway station in Jharkhand was commissioned on Friday, with Godda BJP MP Nishikant Dubey inaugurating the project by flagging off a train. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 293 crore, the nearly five-kilometre-long line is expected to improve railway operations in Deoghar and the wider Santhal Pargana region. The project aims to reduce delays, ease congestion at Jasidih station and improve the movement of passenger and freight trains.
The bypass eliminates the need for trains using the route to enter Jasidih station and reverse their locomotives before continuing their journeys. Previously, locomotives had to be detached from one end of a train and coupled to the other, followed by brake checks before departure. This procedure consumed considerable operational time and affected the smooth movement of trains through the station. The new route is expected to simplify these operations and improve railway efficiency.
The alternative route connects the Deoghar Link Cabin through Kumrabad-Rohini, allowing eligible trains to bypass the main station. According to the Railways, the project is expected to reduce travel time for at least five passenger trains daily. At least two freight trains will also be able to use the new line, helping overcome operational constraints at Jasidih and supporting the movement of goods and industrial supplies across the region.

The project involved several engineering works, including rock cutting and the construction of a road overbridge, a road underbridge and smaller bridges. Railway authorities have also installed and tested the necessary signalling and track-related systems to facilitate safe operations. Eastern Railway General Manager Geetika Pandey, Asansol Divisional Railway Manager Sangrah Maurya and other senior railway officials attended the inauguration. Eastern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shibram Majhi said the bypass would improve passenger movement and operational efficiency.
The commissioning is expected to strengthen rail connectivity across Deoghar, Jasidih, Dumka and Godda. Deoghar is an important pilgrimage destination, home to Baba Baidyanath Dham, which attracts large numbers of devotees throughout the year, particularly during the annual Shravani Mela. Jasidih railway station serves as a major railhead for visitors travelling to the temple town and surrounding areas. By reducing operational delays and improving train movement, the bypass is expected to benefit passengers, freight operators and the wider regional transport network.
