A massive fire broke out at a scrap warehouse in the industrial town of Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Saturday, October 10, spreading to nearby industrial units and prompting a large firefighting operation. The blaze reportedly started at Alpa Industries in Sector 3, where scrap materials were stored. Thick plumes of black smoke rose from the site and could be seen from a considerable distance, causing concern among workers and people in the surrounding industrial area. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the location after receiving information about the incident.
According to preliminary information, the fire started in the morning and intensified rapidly because of the combustible materials stored inside the warehouse. The flames subsequently spread to adjoining industrial sheds, raising concerns about the possibility of further damage. Police personnel and firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from reaching additional facilities. Authorities confirmed that no casualties had been reported at the time of the initial assessment.
Pithampur Station House Officer Sunil Sharma said police teams reached the site soon after receiving information about the fire. Preliminary findings suggested that a short circuit could have triggered the incident, although the exact cause had not been officially established. Firefighters began operations immediately, while additional resources were arranged as the flames spread beyond the original warehouse. Officials said the circumstances surrounding the outbreak would be examined further.

As the fire intensified, the administration called in additional fire tenders from neighbouring areas, including Mhow, along with firefighting support from private companies operating in the industrial belt. A total of seven fire tenders were deployed to tackle the blaze. Fire brigade teams were also stationed at nearby industrial facilities as a precautionary measure to prevent the flames from spreading further. The road leading to the affected unit was closed to keep the public away and allow emergency vehicles to move freely.
After several hours of firefighting, officials managed to bring the blaze under control. However, teams continued working to extinguish the remaining flames and cool the affected area to reduce the risk of the fire reigniting. The extent of damage to the scrap warehouse and neighbouring industrial units had not been determined immediately. Authorities said a detailed assessment would be carried out after the cooling operation was completed.
Pithampur is one of Madhya Pradesh’s major industrial centres and is located around 30 kilometres from Indore. The town houses numerous manufacturing facilities and industrial units, making fire safety an important concern in areas where combustible materials are stored. Officials are expected to investigate the cause of the incident and assess the damage once emergency operations are complete. No casualties had been reported as of the latest available information.
