A woman lawyer was allegedly assaulted inside a government revenue office in Azara, near Guwahati, Assam, during a hearing related to a land acquisition case. The incident reportedly occurred at the office of Revenue Circle Officer Biplab Sharma Bordoloi after a disagreement arose between the lawyer and revenue officials. The matter has drawn attention after footage of the alleged assault circulated on social media, prompting scrutiny of the incident inside a government workplace.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the lawyer had visited the office to attend a hearing concerning the land acquisition matter. During the proceedings, an argument reportedly broke out between her and revenue official Bipul Deka. The complaint further alleged that Revenue Circle Officer Bordoloi subsequently called the lawyer into his chamber, where she was verbally abused. The circumstances surrounding the disagreement are part of the allegations being examined by the police.
The lawyer alleged that when she attempted to record the incident using her mobile phone, Deka snatched the device from her. Bastab Raman Barman, who reportedly introduced himself as a lawyer and was present at the office, was accused of physically assaulting her. Footage circulating online appears to show a man pushing the woman against a cupboard. The allegations have not, by themselves, established the legal responsibility of any individual involved.

The woman also alleged that she was threatened with the revocation of her licence during the confrontation. The allegations include claims of physical assault, verbal abuse and interference with her attempt to document the incident.
Police are investigating the matter, with a separate complaint also reportedly filed against the woman lawyer. Investigators will need to examine the allegations from both sides and establish the sequence of events. Further details about possible arrests or disciplinary action against the officials were not available in the initial report. The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances of the confrontation and whether further legal action is warranted.
