Amid growing speculation over his health, Mojtaba Khamenei has resurfaced in a video released by state media, showing him delivering religious lessons to students. The footage, aired by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, is being presented as his first public appearance since taking over leadership.
However, the broadcaster did not specify when the video was recorded, raising questions about whether it is recent or archival. The release comes as uncertainty surrounds Khamenei’s condition following weeks of absence from public view.
The 56-year-old cleric assumed power after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a reported US-Israeli strike on February 28, a development that significantly escalated tensions in the region. Since then, Mojtaba has largely stayed out of sight, fuelling widespread speculation.

Conflicting reports have emerged about his health. Iranian media have suggested he sustained a leg injury in the strikes that also reportedly killed members of his family. Meanwhile, some international reports have claimed more serious conditions, including disfigurement or even a coma, though none of these claims have been independently verified. A separate report from Qatari media indicated he may have travelled to Moscow for medical treatment.
The uncertainty has drawn attention from global leaders, including Donald Trump, who recently questioned Khamenei’s condition, noting the unusual lack of public appearances.
Despite his absence, statements attributed to Khamenei have continued to emerge. In recent messages, he has called for national unity and reaffirmed Iran’s stance on maintaining pressure in strategic areas such as the Strait of Hormuz. He has also issued strong warnings following the killing of senior Iranian figures, including Ali Larijani, vowing that those responsible would face consequences.
The release of the video appears aimed at countering rumours about his health and leadership status. However, without confirmation of when it was recorded, questions about the current condition and visibility of Iran’s new Supreme Leader remain unresolved.
