As floodwaters recede in Rajasthan’s Bundi district, villagers in Nainwan, Kapren, and Keshoraipatan are piecing their lives back together, drying soaked household goods and clearing debris from homes and shops. The torrential rains on August 22-23 devastated the region, particularly Dokun and Deveriya villages downstream of the Paibalapura dam, where floodwaters surged into homes, leaving little time to salvage crops or belongings. Farmers face severe losses, with soybean, mung, urad, and maize crops completely destroyed.
Ramesh Nagar, a Dokun resident, described the chaos: “The water came so fast, hundreds of grain bags—wheat, soybean, channa—were ruined.” The disaster left villages in shambles, with collapsed kaccha houses and dead livestock. Public representatives, including Keshoraipatan MLA CL Premi, criticized the state government’s delayed response, noting that no relief or compensation has been announced. Premi highlighted ongoing issues, including disrupted potable water and electricity in towns like Ghat Ka Barana and a 25-km stretch from Kapren to Papdi, which remains without power.
Bundi MLA Harimohan Sharma called the state’s disaster relief norms inadequate, citing cases like a youth losing an Rs 8 lakh DJ set and a trader losing 200 cement bags. “The government must act with urgency and empathy,” Sharma urged. Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rituraj Sharma said damage surveys are ongoing, with relief camps planned at gram panchayats to expedite aid distribution.
