In a major push to tackle dust pollution, the Delhi government is set to install mist sprayers across high-traffic areas including Connaught Place, Khan Market, Barakhamba Road, and more, as part of a phased project exceeding Rs 15 crore.
According to officials, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will roll out the project in three phases, covering 24 major roads and high-footfall public areas. The systems, mounted on electric poles, spray fine water mist to trap dust particles and cool the air, enhancing both air quality and thermal comfort.
Phase-I, with a budget of Rs 7.97 crore, will cover 10 roads including Barakhamba Road, Firozshah Road, and Subramanian Bharti Marg. A total of 511 poles with 15,330 nozzles will be installed. Roads like Mandir Marg (1,790m), Tilak Marg (1,230m), and Subramanian Bharti Marg (2,210m) will see hundreds of poles and thousands of nozzles.

"This initiative will be completed in the next 3–4 months, ahead of winter," said Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, citing Supreme Court directions to reduce Delhi’s toxic air.
Phase-II will target 14 more roads including Shahjahan Road, Aurobindo Marg, and Mother Teresa Crescent. Around 530 poles and 15,300+ nozzles will be installed at an estimated Rs 7.31 crore.
Phase-III shifts focus to public spaces like Hanuman Mandir (Rs 82.7 lakh), Khan Market (Rs 76.3 lakh), and Connaught Place's Inner (Rs 1.01 crore) and Outer Circles (Rs 1.18 crore)—totalling Rs 3.79 crore.
Mist systems are already operational at Lodhi Road, with work underway at Shanti Path and Africa Avenue. Each kilometre of installation costs around Rs 35 lakh, with poles fitted with 30 nozzles each.
This initiative marks another step in Delhi’s ongoing battle against pollution—bringing cleaner, cooler air to its busiest hubs.
