A shocking health scare struck a state-run boys’ welfare hostel in Dharmavaram, Jogulamba Gadwal district, Telangana, as 52 students were hospitalized late Friday night after suffering severe vomiting and stomach pain following dinner. The incident occurred at the government hostel in Itikyala mandal, where students consumed a routine meal of sambar, rice, and cabbage curry—now suspected to be the source of food poisoning. Emergency teams rushed the affected boys to a nearby government hospital for immediate treatment.
Doctors confirmed that all students are clinically stable, with 32 already discharged by Saturday morning. The remaining 20 are under close observation, showing signs of recovery. A medical camp has been set up inside the hostel premises to monitor other residents and prevent further cases. Health officials are conducting tests on food samples and water sources to pinpoint the exact cause.
Students reported symptoms beginning shortly after dinner, with many complaining of nausea, abdominal cramps, and dizziness. Authorities have launched an investigation into kitchen hygiene, food storage, and cooking practices at the hostel. The district administration has assured strict action if negligence is found, while parents demand accountability.

The hostel, meant to provide safe shelter and nutrition for underprivileged boys, now faces scrutiny over food safety standards. Local leaders have visited the hospital, promising upgrades in hostel facilities. Health teams continue round-the-clock monitoring to ensure no relapse occurs.
This incident highlights growing concerns over food quality in government welfare hostels across Telangana. With similar cases reported in the past, authorities face mounting pressure to enforce stringent hygiene protocols and regular health audits to protect vulnerable students.
