Opposition parties are set to stage a protest at Makar Dwar of Parliament on Monday, demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police action during a student protest held in the national capital on July 20. The demonstration comes as the Monsoon Session of Parliament enters its eleventh day, with the Opposition also planning to raise the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft controversy and other issues during the proceedings. The Opposition has maintained that the Home Minister should address both Houses of Parliament and clarify the circumstances surrounding the police action against protesters. Congress MP KC Venugopal said opposition parties would continue raising the matter and seek an explanation from the government over allegations of a lathi-charge and firing during the protest involving students in Delhi.

Speaking to ANI, Venugopal said the Opposition would continue pressing for answers on issues it has been highlighting. “I don't know whether they are introducing the FCRA Bill. I don't have any understanding about that. Let us see. We will raise the same issue of the Home Minister's explanation in the House... on the lathi-charge and the firing on Delhi students,” he said. Apart from the protest issue, opposition parties are also expected to raise the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft row in Parliament. The matter has recently become a political flashpoint after Independent MP Pappu Yadav’s actions sparked controversy. Yadav had drawn attention after mimicking a priest and collecting donations while criticising the government over allegations related to the handling of donations connected with the Ram Mandir issue.

The Parliament session is also likely to witness discussions on the alleged attack on Pappu Yadav in Delhi on Sunday. The incident is expected to add another layer of political debate, with opposition parties likely to seek responses from the government over law and order concerns. Meanwhile, there is speculation that the Centre may introduce the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill during the ongoing Monsoon Session. The possibility of the legislation being brought before Parliament has added to expectations of heated exchanges between the government and opposition benches.

Responding to the Opposition’s protest plans, BJP MP Manish Jaiswal said Parliament’s primary responsibility was to function and pass legislation in the interest of the public. He accused opposition parties of attempting to disrupt proceedings instead of allowing legislative work to continue. “While I do not know exactly which Bill is coming up next, the important thing is that the session continues. Parliament exists to serve the people; our hope is that work benefiting the public gets done,” Jaiswal said. He added that issues should be raised through established parliamentary procedures and accused the Opposition of wanting proceedings to run according to its own demands.

The ongoing Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disagreements between the government and opposition parties over various issues. While opposition leaders have argued that discussions on key matters are necessary for accountability, the government has maintained that parliamentary functioning should not be disrupted. With the Opposition planning further protests and the government pushing ahead with its legislative agenda, Parliament is expected to witness another day of political confrontation. The coming proceedings are likely to see intense debates over the student protest issue, the Ram Mandir donation controversy and possible new legislation, including the proposed FCRA amendment.
