Delhi has stepped up security ahead of a major protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, with police installing spike strips and setting up barricades at key locations. The additional measures are intended to prevent vehicles from entering restricted areas and control movement around sensitive stretches of the national capital. In the Mohan Cooperative Estate area of southeast Delhi, police personnel were seen guarding roads and checking vehicles before allowing them to proceed. The arrangements form part of a wider security deployment across central Delhi, the city's borders and locations where protesters are expected to assemble.
The CJP organised the October 10 demonstration to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It is the party's second major agitation and centres on allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and modifications involving Form 6, which is used in the electoral registration process. The protest has prompted authorities to introduce extensive restrictions and deploy personnel at several locations to prevent disruptions. Police are monitoring movement in areas surrounding the planned gathering as preparations continue for the demonstration.
Several individuals associated with the protest have reportedly been detained as part of the security arrangements. Those named include Dhruv Rathee, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were detained at Delhi airport after arriving by plane, according to the report. Other CJP leaders and more than 500 protesters have also been detained at different locations across the city. The detentions have taken place amid heightened police activity ahead of the planned gathering at Jantar Mantar.

The Centre has deployed more than 20,000 personnel from the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces to maintain law and order during the protest. Authorities have also taken preventive steps affecting public transport. Following a request from the police, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed entry and exit facilities at 45 metro stations. The closures are part of the wider restrictions introduced in anticipation of large crowds and possible disruptions in the capital.
Rail services have also been affected by the security measures. More than 250 trains, including services arriving from other states and local trains, scheduled to reach New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10 have been cancelled. The cancellations are expected to affect passengers travelling into the city during the period covered by the restrictions. Commuters have been left to account for changes to both rail and metro services while police continue preparations for the demonstration.
For security management, the New Delhi district has been divided into 20 zones, with senior officials deployed on the ground to supervise operations in their respective areas. Police personnel are stationed at key points, while vehicle checks and physical barriers are being used to restrict access to prohibited stretches. The scale of the deployment reflects the authorities' preparations for the CJP's planned protest and their efforts to prevent incidents during the gathering. Further movement restrictions and transport disruptions remain central to the security arrangements surrounding the demonstration.
