The BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government over reports of fake seeds and fertilisers being sold to farmers, calling it a betrayal of the state’s agricultural backbone.
State BJP President B Y Vijayendra demanded immediate criminal action against companies involved in supplying counterfeit agricultural inputs. He also urged the government to form a special police vigilance team to crack down on the scam networks targeting the state’s farmers.
“Companies are sabotaging agriculture by flooding the market with fake seeds and fertilisers, just when farmers are hoping for a good harvest thanks to a promising monsoon,” Vijayendra said, warning that such exploitation must not be tolerated.

He stressed the need for urgent government intervention to ensure timely delivery of quality seeds and fertilisers, and to protect farmers from further harm. “This should be the government’s top priority. Farmers live in harmony with nature and trust the system — that trust is now under attack,” he said.
BJP leaders are pressing the state to follow the Centre’s lead, citing the Modi government’s efforts to safeguard farmers through support schemes and precautionary measures.
The party also hit out at the Congress government for its failure to anticipate fertiliser shortages, despite early monsoon conditions. With farmers in several regions reportedly protesting over a lack of urea, BJP’s Leader of Opposition R Ashoka accused the ruling party of being too caught up in internal power struggles to care for the agricultural community.
“The curse of the farmers will fall on this Congress government if it doesn’t wake up,” Ashoka warned, calling the situation a ticking time bomb for Karnataka’s rural economy.
