Abhay Singh, popularly known as "IIT Baba," was arrested on Monday in Jaipur’s Shiprapath area after police recovered a small quantity of ganja (marijuana) from his possession at the Classic Hotel near Riddhi Siddhi Park. The arrest followed reports of a viral social media video allegedly showing Singh threatening suicide, prompting a swift response from Shiprapath Police Station.
SHO Rajendra Kumar Godara confirmed that during questioning, Singh admitted to consuming ganja, which he called "prasad," and surrendered approximately 1.5 grams of the substance. The police seized the ganja and booked Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Given the minor quantity involved, he was granted bail on the spot after interrogation.
Singh, an IIT Bombay aerospace engineering graduate turned spiritual figure, rose to fame during the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. His arrest adds to a string of recent controversies, including an alleged assault during a TV debate in Noida on February 28. Addressing the Jaipur incident, Singh dismissed rumors of detention and suicide threats as "fake news," emphasizing his immediate release and celebrating his birthday with followers later that day.
The case has sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning the police action over a small amount of ganja, while others debate Singh’s unconventional persona. Authorities have warned Singh but indicated further summons may follow if required.
