Renowned music composer A.R. Rahman has been admitted to Apollo Hospital on Greams Road in Chennai yesterday, prompting an outpouring of concern from his fans and the music community alike.
While some reports say on his return from London last night, he reported uneasiness and chest pain and was rushed to the hospital, some reports say quoting hospital sources the musician was feeling unwell due to dehydration as he had been fasting for Ramzan.
News agency IANS says Apollo Hospital has confirmed that Rahman received preliminary treatment before being moved for an angiogram, and his condition is stable. "An official medical bulletin is expected soon."
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin shared his concern upon hearing the news that Rahman had been admitted to the hospital due to illness. Confirming that Rahman is 'fine,' CM tweeted on his social media X page, “As soon as I heard the news that Isaipuyal @arrahman had been admitted to the hospital due to ill health, I contacted the doctors and inquired about his health! They said he is fine and will be back home soon!.”
The 58-year-old composer had recently returned to Chennai after a performance in the United Kingdom. Last month, Rahman shared the stage with international pop star Ed Sheeran at his concert in Chennai. A week later, he attended the music launch of his film 'Chaava'.
His hospitalisation comes shortly after his ex-wife, Saira Banu, was admitted for a medical emergency and underwent surgery.
