Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar announced on Monday that the TDP-led NDA government is investing more than Rs 12,400 crore to provide free electricity to farmers. Addressing the state Assembly, Kumar highlighted that the N Chandrababu Naidu-led administration has already facilitated 22,709 power connections for farmers since taking office.
"A total of 69,975 connections have been approved, with the government spending Rs 2.6 lakh per connection," the minister stated. He accused the previous YSRCP government of severely damaging the state’s power sector. Kumar also assured that farmers would soon receive nine hours of free electricity daily under the PM-KUSUM scheme, as directed by the Chief Minister. He noted that approximately 4.5 lakh power connections are needed to support agricultural activities across the state.
In a separate appeal, Kadapa MLA R Madhavi urged Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha to tackle the unregulated sale of painkillers. Meanwhile, the Home Minister revealed that illegal marijuana cultivation has dropped significantly, from 11,000 acres to just 100 acres, due to the government’s aggressive crackdown. She added that families previously involved in marijuana farming are being guided toward alternative crops and other livelihood options.
Following discussions praising the Rs 3.22 lakh crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju adjourned the Assembly until Tuesday.
