A deadly terrorist attack rocked the Tor Chappur checkpost in Darra Adam Khel, Kohat district, in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, leaving one policeman dead and a Federal Constabulary personnel wounded. The assault, which unfolded in the early hours of Monday around 1 a.m., saw dozens of unidentified gunmen unleash a barrage of gunfire from multiple directions, targeting the security outpost in a fierce bid to overrun it.
According to Zahidullah Khan, a district police officer in Kohat, the attackers launched a coordinated offensive, engaging security forces in a grueling two-and-a-half-hour firefight. Despite the intensity of the assault, the police and paramilitary personnel held their ground, successfully repelling the attackers and thwarting their attempt to seize the checkpost. “The terrorists aimed to capture the post, but our forces stood firm,” Khan stated.
In the aftermath, police recovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by the assailants, indicating the potential for even greater destruction. A large-scale search operation is now underway to track down the perpetrators, with security forces combing the surrounding areas for clues. The attack has heightened fears of escalating violence in the region, which has seen a surge in terrorist activities over the past year.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack in a public statement, paying tribute to the fallen policeman and offering prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured paramilitary personnel. “The bravery and sacrifices of our police in the fight against terrorism will never be forgotten,” Kundi declared, emphasizing the resolve of security forces to combat the growing threat.
This incident follows a similar attack just a day earlier in Bannu district, where a soldier was killed and another injured in a shooting by unknown assailants. The province has become a hotspot for militant activity, particularly since the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, vowing to intensify attacks on security forces.
The recent wave of violence has put Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces at the epicenter of Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism. Last month alone, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 45 attacks, resulting in 54 deaths and 49 injuries, according to official reports. A notable incident on September 1 saw a police constable killed and another seriously injured in an attack on a police post in Mir Ali, North Waziristan.
In response, Pakistani authorities have ramped up counterterrorism operations across the province, targeting militant hideouts and networks. Security forces have conducted raids and intelligence-based operations to curb the rising tide of violence, but the persistent attacks underscore the challenges in restoring stability to the region.
The Tor Chappur attack serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by Pakistan’s security personnel, who continue to bear the brunt of militant aggression. As investigations continue, officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to aid in the fight against terrorism.
