Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill has expressed a strong desire to return to India’s T20 International setup after being left out of the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Speaking ahead of the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gill said his focus remains on continuous improvement across all formats of the game, despite the setback of losing his place in the national T20 side.
Gill, who currently serves as India’s ODI and Test captain, endured a challenging T20I phase in 2025. He managed 291 runs in 15 matches, a performance that ultimately led to his exclusion from the national squad and the T20 World Cup plans. His last appearance for India in the shortest format came during a home series against South Africa in December 2025.
However, the 26-year-old has responded impressively in IPL 2026, producing one of the finest seasons of his career. His consistent performances with the bat have reignited discussions about a possible return to India’s T20 setup. Ahead of the final, Gill stated that he would be happy to represent India again if selected, while emphasising that his primary focus remains on improving his overall game rather than worrying about selection decisions.

Speaking about his approach, Gill said preparation and self-improvement help him stay mentally focused. He noted that cricket is a game where perfection is unattainable, but striving for constant progress remains his goal. According to him, concentrating on factors within his control and understanding what is required for both personal and team success are key elements of his mindset.
Gill also reflected on emerging talent in the IPL, reserving special praise for Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Describing him as one of the most exciting players in the format, Gill highlighted the youngster’s batting technique, hand speed, and ability to dominate quality bowling attacks. He suggested that opposition teams could face significant challenges against him in the years ahead.
As Gujarat Titans prepare for the IPL 2026 final, Gill’s comments have attracted widespread attention among cricket fans and analysts. His candid remarks about national team selection, combined with his outstanding IPL campaign, have strengthened calls for his return to India’s T20 squad, making his performance in the title clash even more closely watched.
