Kim Jong Un has expressed support for China’s push to create a “multipolar world” during talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, signaling deepening alignment between the two countries amid rising global geopolitical tensions.
According to North Korean state media, Kim endorsed Beijing’s vision of a global order not dominated by a single power and reaffirmed backing for China’s core policies, including its stance on territorial integrity under the “one-China” principle.
The meeting took place during Wang’s visit to Pyongyang — his first in several years — aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and reviving high-level exchanges that had slowed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sides emphasized the need to expand cooperation and coordination on regional and international issues.

Kim highlighted that closer ties with China are crucial for protecting shared strategic interests, particularly as both nations face pressure from the United States and its allies. He also called for increased exchanges across political, economic, and diplomatic channels to reinforce bilateral relations.
The discussions come at a time when North Korea has been strengthening its ties with Russia, including reported military cooperation, while also seeking to rebalance its long-standing relationship with China. Analysts view the renewed engagement with Beijing as part of Pyongyang’s broader strategy to navigate international isolation.
China, North Korea’s most important economic and political partner, has similarly stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination in a “complex international environment.” The two sides reiterated their commitment to deepening practical cooperation and sustaining what both describe as a historically strong alliance.
The meeting underscores a broader geopolitical shift, with countries like North Korea and China advocating for a multipolar global system as an alternative to Western-led structures. The outcome of such alignments is likely to influence regional stability, global diplomacy, and ongoing tensions involving the United States and its allies.
