A man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob on Tuesday morning after villagers accused him of confining and sexually assaulting a minor girl. District authorities said the allegations involving the girl had not yet been confirmed and would be examined as part of the police investigation.
According to a complaint filed by the deceased man’s father, a crowd of approximately 100 to 150 people gathered outside the family’s residence and accused them of forcibly keeping a girl from the village inside the house. The family denied the allegation, but members of the crowd allegedly restrained the man.
The available complaint states that the man was subsequently assaulted by the gathering and later died from his injuries. Further details about the sequence of events, including how the crowd assembled and whether anyone attempted to intervene, were not immediately available. Police are expected to record statements from residents and possible eyewitnesses.
