North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has intensified diplomatic and military signalling ahead of Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to China, showcasing strengthened alliances and enhanced weapons capabilities. The developments come as Pyongyang seeks to position itself as a formidable nuclear power amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

In recent days, North Korea conducted a series of missile tests, including what it described as advanced munitions designed to target critical infrastructure such as power grids. The displays are seen as part of a broader effort to demonstrate military readiness and technological advancement, particularly as global attention turns to high-level diplomatic engagements in the region.

Simultaneously, Pyongyang hosted China’s top diplomat Wang Yi for the first such visit in six years. During talks, both sides reaffirmed their close bilateral ties, with Kim emphasising the importance of expanding cooperation to safeguard shared strategic interests. China reiterated its commitment to strengthening relations and coordinating on key regional and international issues.
