India has reaffirmed its support for Afghanistan amid rising tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, sharply criticising Pakistan for sheltering terrorist organisations and attempting to deflect blame onto neighbouring countries. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing the media in New Delhi on Thursday, said that India is closely monitoring the situation unfolding along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. “Three things are clear,” Jaiswal stated, underscoring that Pakistan continues to host terrorist organisations, blames its neighbours for internal failures, and resents Afghanistan’s assertion of sovereignty over its own territory.
The MEA’s statement came after a series of cross-border confrontations and growing diplomatic friction between Pakistan and Afghanistan, each accusing the other of harbouring militants. Islamabad has alleged that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operates from Afghan soil, while Kabul insists Pakistan is responsible for fostering instability in the region through its long-standing ties with extremist groups. India’s remarks reflect New Delhi’s continued emphasis on counter-terrorism and its consistent criticism of Pakistan’s use of terrorism as a state policy.
Reiterating India’s policy on Afghanistan, Jaiswal reaffirmed that New Delhi remains “fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan.” India has maintained that peace and stability in Afghanistan are crucial not only for the Afghan people but also for regional security. Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, India has provided humanitarian assistance, including food grains and medical aid, while calling for an inclusive and representative government in Kabul that respects human rights and international commitments.

The latest remarks signal India’s cautious but firm approach in balancing its diplomatic ties in South Asia while maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. Analysts note that India’s renewed articulation of support for Afghanistan comes at a time when Pakistan faces growing isolation over its handling of cross-border militancy. As tensions persist, New Delhi’s statement serves as a reminder of India’s broader regional vision—supporting a stable, sovereign Afghanistan free from external interference and terrorism.
