A devastating incident in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district claimed the lives of four men on Friday as they suffocated while cleaning a septic tank in Nawada village. The victims, identified as brothers Ajay Chaudhary (50), Chandrashekhar Chaudhary (42), Raju Shekhar Chaudhary (55), and Maltu Ram, were overcome by toxic gases after opening the tank’s lid, according to police reports.
The tragedy unfolded when the group attempted to perform maintenance work on the septic tank, unaware of the deadly risks posed by the accumulation of hazardous gases. DIG (Palamu Range) Naushad Alam confirmed the incident, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of the deaths, which have left the local community in shock.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. This heartbreaking event underscores the dangers associated with septic tank cleaning without proper safety measures, prompting calls for stricter regulations and awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
