Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday said education systems across the world must focus on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability to prepare young people for a rapidly changing global environment. He made the remarks while addressing the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting held in Bhubaneswar.
Joshi highlighted the importance of the meeting as India is holding the BRICS chairmanship this year. He said the theme of India’s BRICS chairmanship, “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability”, has strong relevance for the education sector and reflects the need for countries to work together in shaping the future of learning.
The Education Minister said modern education systems must be equipped to handle challenges such as pandemics, economic uncertainties, climate-related issues and rapid technological advancements. He stressed that education should continue evolving in line with the changing aspirations of every generation while ensuring equal opportunities for learners.

Joshi also underlined the importance of keeping people at the centre of education policies. He said that while technology, economies and professions continue to transform, the focus of education must remain on students, teachers, researchers and young people who contribute to society’s progress.
The minister said the principle of “humanity first” should guide discussions on education, as the sector plays a crucial role in shaping future generations. He added that cooperation among BRICS nations can help strengthen educational systems through knowledge sharing, innovation and collaborative initiatives.
Ahead of the ministerial meeting, the Ministry of Education hosted the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials Meeting under India’s BRICS chairmanship. Senior officials and delegates from BRICS member countries, including Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates, participated in discussions on strengthening cooperation in education.
The discussions focused on areas such as early childhood care and education, technical and vocational education and training, collaborative research, innovation, recognition of qualifications, academic leadership and traditional knowledge systems. The meeting concluded with the finalisation of proposed outcomes for the BRICS Education Ministers Declaration.
