Early trends from the Tamil Nadu Assembly election counting on Monday indicated a major political shift, with actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as a strong early front-runner. According to initial Election Commission counting updates, TVK has taken leads in a significant number of constituencies, marking a notable debut performance for the newly formed party in the state’s political arena.
As per early figures, TVK was leading in around 80 Assembly constituencies during the initial rounds of counting. In comparison, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, was ahead in 54 seats at one stage. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the AIADMK and BJP, was trailing further behind with leads in approximately 44 constituencies. These numbers reflect early postal ballot and initial EVM counting trends, which are subject to change as additional rounds progress.
At one point during counting, TVK was reported to be ahead in 75 constituencies while DMK trailed closely with leads in 66 seats, highlighting a rapidly shifting contest between the new entrant and established Dravidian parties. The fluctuating trends underscored the competitiveness of the election and the unexpected strength shown by TVK across multiple regions, including urban and semi-urban constituencies where the party appears to have gained traction.

In several key constituencies, prominent political figures were also in focus as counting progressed. AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was reported to be leading from the Edappadi constituency in Salem district. Meanwhile, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin initially trailed in his Kolathur constituency but later regained a lead in subsequent rounds after early surges from the TVK candidate V.S. Babu created a brief setback for the DMK stronghold.
In the southern region of the state, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam was also leading from the Bodinayakkanur constituency, adding further intensity to the multi-cornered electoral battle. Across Tamil Nadu’s 234 constituencies, counting continued in multiple rounds with officials updating trends periodically. The early performance of TVK has drawn significant attention from political observers, who note that while these are initial trends, they indicate a possible reshaping of voter preferences and emerging political dynamics in the state.
With counting still underway, the final outcome remains uncertain, and leads are expected to fluctuate as more rounds are completed. However, the early momentum shown by TVK has already positioned it as one of the most closely watched political developments in this election cycle, setting the stage for a potentially significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape.
