Swiggy’s “Food on Train” service recorded strong growth during the April-June quarter of 2026, with the platform witnessing a threefold year-on-year increase in orders as demand for railway food delivery continued to expand. The company said the service network has now reached more than 180 cities across India, supported by rising travel activity during the summer season and increasing adoption among passengers.
According to Swiggy, repeat usage and advance bookings contributed significantly to the growth. Multi-station bookings, where passengers order meals at multiple railway stations under the same PNR, increased by more than 300% compared with the previous year. Customers using this option spent around 2.2 times more than passengers placing orders at only one station.
Summer conditions also influenced food preferences, with beverages and desserts witnessing a major rise in demand. Soft drink orders increased by 354%, while ice cream orders grew by 140% and lassi orders doubled during the quarter. Mango shake emerged as one of the most popular seasonal beverages, recording nearly ten times higher demand compared with the winter period.

Traditional meals continued to dominate passenger choices on the platform. More than four lakh rotis were ordered during the summer, making it the most frequently purchased food item, followed by masala dosa, aloo paratha, and the McAloo Tikki Burger. Among non-vegetarian options, chicken biryani remained the leading choice among railway travellers.
The company also introduced its “Scan Your Ticket” feature, which allows passengers to upload railway tickets for automatic PNR detection before placing food orders. Swiggy said the feature improved convenience for travellers and received a positive response from users ordering meals during their journeys.
Swiggy added 17 new railway stations to its delivery network during the quarter, including Gurugram, Udaipur, Bikaner, Nanded, and Nizamabad. The company said growth was particularly strong in smaller cities, with emerging India Rise stations recording 253% year-on-year growth, while advance bookings and increasing first-time users highlighted the expanding reach of digital food services among railway passengers.
