An All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator from Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Matin Patel, has been arrested for allegedly sheltering former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee Nida Khan, who is an accused in a religious conversion case linked to the company's Nashik unit. Police took Patel into custody after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court despite multiple summons. According to officials, a case had been registered against Patel in connection with allegations that he provided shelter to Nida Khan while she was wanted in the case.
After Patel failed to attend court proceedings, authorities issued an arrest warrant against him. Police subsequently arrested him on Thursday at around 7 pm and took him to Nashik for further questioning. Following his arrest, officials also began demolition action at Patel's residence and office. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the action or the legal grounds under which it was initiated. The developments come as investigators continue their probe into the broader case involving allegations of religious conversion and misconduct.
The case is connected to Nida Khan, a former employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) who was terminated after being named in the investigation involving the company's Nashik unit. Khan was arrested on May 7 from a rented flat in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after allegedly remaining on the run for nearly 25 days. The controversy emerged after a woman accused her colleague Danish Sheikh of entering into a physical relationship with her in 2022 by allegedly making a false promise of marriage. The complaint stated that Sheikh was already married at the time.

According to the police report, Khan, who is Sheikh's sister, allegedly made derogatory comments about the complainant's faith and attempted to pressure her to convert her religion. The allegations led to a police investigation involving multiple individuals connected to the case. Authorities have been examining the claims made in the complaint, including the alleged role of those accused of assisting or supporting the main suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and further action will depend on evidence collected by the police. The arrest of Patel has added a political dimension to the case, as he is an elected AIMIM representative in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The party has not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the arrest and the allegations against the corporator. The TCS-related case has drawn attention due to the involvement of employees of a major information technology company and allegations involving personal relationships, religious pressure and criminal misconduct. Authorities have maintained that all actions are being taken according to legal procedures while the investigation continues. Police officials are expected to question Patel regarding the allegations of providing shelter to Khan and his alleged connection with the case. Meanwhile, the accused individuals will have the opportunity to present their defence through the judicial process as the matter progresses.
