In a disturbing repeat of last week’s chaos, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad was plunged into high alert late Sunday night after receiving three anonymous bomb threat emails targeting inbound flights from three different countries, intensifying fears of a systematic campaign aimed at disrupting aviation operations across India.
The threatened flights were British Airways flight BA 277 originating from London Heathrow, Lufthansa flight LH 752 from Frankfurt, and domestic carrier IndiGo’s 6E 7178 from Kannur in Kerala. The emails, sent within a short span, forced ground authorities to declare a full emergency even before the aircraft entered Indian airspace, with all agencies placed on maximum readiness.
Immediately after the two international flights touched down in the early hours of Monday and the IndiGo flight landed shortly thereafter, each aircraft was towed to remote isolation bays far from the terminal. Bomb squads, Central Industrial Security Force quick-reaction teams, dog squads, and fire tenders executed exhaustive searches, while every passenger and crew member underwent rigorous secondary screening and baggage reconciliation; thankfully, all searches returned negative.

This fresh triple-threat comes barely days after RGIA faced similar hoax emails targeting an Emirates flight from Dubai and two IndiGo services from Madina and Sharjah, resulting in the Madina-Hyderabad flight being diverted to Ahmedabad for checks. Aviation security officials now believe the threats are being orchestrated by the same individual or group using encrypted channels to create widespread panic.
As investigators from the cyber cell and central agencies race to trace the source of the emails, RGIA remains on heightened vigil with reinforced screening protocols. The back-to-back incidents have sparked serious concern among travellers and prompted calls for stronger digital safeguards to counter what appears to be a escalating pattern of aviation hoaxes targeting major Indian airports.
