In a shocking case of honour killing, a 24-year-old man, Sanju, along with three accomplices, shot dead his 23-year-old sister, Sapna, at her home in Kahani village, Rohtak, on Wednesday evening for marrying an autorickshaw driver, Suraj, against the family’s wishes more than two years ago. The couple had briefly left the village after their marriage but later returned.
Police arrested Sanju and his associates—Rahul (Kahani village), Ankit, and Gaurav (both from Sonipat district)—on Thursday after receiving intelligence that the group planned to kill Suraj next. When a police team intercepted them on Ladot-Bohar Road, the accused opened fire, triggering a brief shootout in which all four sustained bullet injuries. They are now under treatment at PGIMS Hospital, Rohtak.
During the attack at Sapna’s house, her brother-in-law Sahil was also injured. Police recovered two .30-bore pistols, two country-made pistols, live and blank cartridges, magazines, and a motorcycle from the accused, none of whom have prior criminal records.
