The Delhi government’s Directorate of Education has mandated that all government schools introduce at least one English medium section per class starting this academic session, as announced in a circular issued on July 8, 2025. This directive builds on earlier instructions from 2014 and 2018, aiming to bolster students’ academic foundations for higher education in fields like science, technology, and research.
Admission to these sections will depend on students’ willingness and aptitude. All subjects, except regional languages, will be taught in English, with schools required to provide adequate English-language teaching materials. Schools must also update their records, including the UDISE portal, to reflect the change.
The initiative, which will roll out up to Class 12 in phases, seeks to equip students with stronger English proficiency to compete in global academic and professional arenas. District and zonal authorities have been tasked with overseeing implementation and providing necessary support to ensure compliance.
