Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paid floral tribute to freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad on his 95th martyrdom day on Friday, calling his sacrifices “an enduring inspiration of patriotism, courage, and self-respect.” The Chief Minister visited Azad’s birthplace, Bhabra village—now known as Azad Nagar—in Alirajpur district, where he was welcomed by local residents and public representatives.
During the visit, CM Yadav inspected the ‘Azad Smriti Mandir,’ built in memory of the legendary leader, and interacted with members of the trust maintaining the memorial. Chandrashekhar Azad, born on July 23, 1906, in Bhabra village, laid down his life on February 27, 1931, in Alfred Park, Prayagraj, after a fierce encounter with British police, staying true to his pledge never to be captured.
As part of the commemoration, the government organised the traditional Bhagoria Festival at Udaygarh. Known for its vibrant colours and rich tribal traditions, the festival featured young men and women in traditional attire performing group dances to the beats of mandal and dhol, accompanied by folk songs and colourful gulal, highlighting the preservation of local art and culture.

Speaking at the event, CM Yadav performed a bhoomi-poojan and inaugurated development projects in Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar valued at over Rs 180 crore. He emphasised that these initiatives are expected to accelerate the district’s overall development and improve infrastructure for residents.
The Chief Minister also highlighted his government’s efforts to empower women, farmers, and economically disadvantaged communities across Madhya Pradesh. He underlined the importance of linking cultural celebrations with initiatives that foster social and economic growth in tribal and rural regions.
Through the dual commemoration of Azad’s legacy and the launch of development projects, the event reinforced the significance of patriotism, cultural heritage, and inclusive development in Madhya Pradesh, while drawing public attention to the government’s commitment to regional progress.
