Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated India’s support for peaceful efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in the Kyrgyz capital.

Speaking during a joint statement with Putin, Modi said India supports efforts aimed at resolving the conflict peacefully. He stressed that India advocates resolving all problems through peaceful means, describing such an approach as necessary for the wider interests of humanity.

The meeting between Modi and Putin took place as leaders gathered in Bishkek for the SCO Summit. The interaction provided an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest amid continuing international attention on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

India has consistently emphasised dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of addressing international conflicts. New Delhi has maintained that lasting solutions to disputes should be achieved through peaceful negotiations and diplomatic engagement.

Modi’s remarks in Bishkek reaffirmed that position as India continues to engage with both Russia and other international partners. The Prime Minister’s statement also underlined New Delhi’s broader emphasis on peaceful resolution of conflicts while maintaining its independent foreign policy approach.

The meeting with Putin comes during the SCO Summit, which brings together leaders of member countries to discuss regional security, cooperation and other international issues. Modi’s comments on Ukraine added a diplomatic dimension to his engagement with the Russian President during the summit.
