A shrine dedicated to the revered Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah inside Wynberg Allen School in Mussoorie’s Bala Hisar area was allegedly demolished late Saturday night, prompting swift police action. Mussoorie Kotwali police registered an FIR against three identified individuals—Hariom, Shivayun, and Shraddha—along with 25-30 unidentified persons for trespassing and vandalism using iron rods and hammers.
The incident damaged the shrine structure and religious books kept inside. A case has been filed under Sections 196(1)(b) and 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deal with acts promoting enmity and deliberate insults to religious feelings. Circle Officer Manoj Aswal confirmed that the accused have been identified from video footage, with three named in the FIR so far and more likely to be added as the probe advances.
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh directed immediate action after receiving a written complaint from the local Muslim community. Authorities stated that no arrests have been made yet, but investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible and gather further evidence.

Baba Bulleh Shah, an 18th-century Punjabi Sufi poet and philosopher, remains widely celebrated for his timeless verses promoting universal love and unity, most famously the lines: “Na main Hindu na Turk Peshawari, na main Arabi na Lahori, Bulla ki jaana main kaun” (Neither Hindu nor Turk from Peshawar, neither Arab nor from Lahore, Bulla, who knows who I am?).
The vandalism has sparked concern among devotees and community members who view the shrine as a symbol of interfaith harmony and cultural heritage. Police assured that the matter is under active investigation with appropriate legal steps being taken.
